Mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus have been reported within Puerto Rico. Based on the CDC guidelines, the risk of infection is very low for the majority of people. However, the CDC encourages women who are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant as well as anyone with a compromised immune system or chronic disease that makes them more susceptible to severe infection to consult with their physician if they are concerned about traveling to Puerto Rico. For all travelers it is recommended by the CDC that you wear long sleeves and pants and use bug spray containing DEET to prevent mosquito bites. We strongly encourage attendees to pack these items.
NAGAP staff will continue to monitor and report any other advisories in preparation for your travels. We also suggest that you check with your own institutions/universities for travel advisory concerns and/or restrictions.
Based on the CDC information and our contract for the event, we do not have plans to relocate at this time. Cancellation of PDI registrations will be subject to NAGAP’s standard cancellation policy as stated in the meeting materials.
