Summer Professional Development Institute

July 10-11, 2025
Chicago, IL

NAGAP's Summer Professional Development Institute for Early Career and Advanced GEM Professionals will offer two tracks- one focusing on foundational core competencies and the other on advanced competencies. While we have customized the offerings for these distinct groups, we have made a concerted effort to provide increased opportunities for all participants to interact, connect, and learn from one another.

This year’s event will include more interactive workshop-style sessions, so participants have the chance to practice new skills and strategies and immediately apply their knowledge to real-world situations.

The Early Career track is like a bootcamp for new GEM professionals, focusing on foundational core competencies and entry-level skills and knowledge.

Who should attend this track:

  • Generally, professionals who have been working in the field, or in their current positions, for three years or less.
  • Individuals that are new to the GEM field or are interested in learning more about GEM foundational core competencies and strengthening basic skills.
  • Professionals who want to gain the knowledge and skills it takes to be successful in a more student-facing, entry-level GEM position.

The Advanced track focuses on bridging the gap between entry-level skills and the advanced skills and knowledge required for leadership positions in GEM.

Who should attend this track:

  • Generally, GEM professionals with four or more years of experience.
  • Individuals who have experience in an entry-level position who are ready to advance to the next level.
  • Professionals who want to gain the advanced knowledge and skills it takes to be successful in a higher-level supervisory or GEM leadership position.
